Adopting Toku: Day 32

Can’t tell whether Toku is gaining curiosity or courage but he’s certainly gaining something. Something tenaciously playful were you to ask us.

After pouncing on, assaulting and defeating the evil leaf threatening the sanctity of the park, the three of us decided to do some exploring. The further we strayed from home the more Toku looked to us for permission and protection, building trust and unity. Suddenly, he began gnawing at his leash and my girlfriend, against my better judgement, unclipped it and to both of our surprise — he was remarkably well behaved, cool and calm, trailing alongside us.

Hogging the remote all week, my girlfriend is starting to get cranky with Toku on account of his watching cartoons while she’s most eager to finish the last season of True Blood. Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon are definitely two of his fave channels but his all-time favorite appears to be Friends.

With the exception of his stubborn reluctantly towards bath-time and a flair for the dramatic, Toku has become a miracle adoption story for us and is already considered a member of the family. It feels a bit like it’s all happening too fast, but in a good way. Feels like every time I come home he’s doubled in size once again. Look at how big he’s gotten!
